Aloe Vera is a clear gel extracted from the leaves of the Aloe Vera plant. Aloe Vera is great at soothing itching and sensitive skin, and you’ve probably used it after you’ve been in the sun. But have you ever used it on your hair?
Aloe Vera is one of the latest hair super heroes. You may have seen its green leaves poking around on Tik Tok but did you know it can minimise hair loss and improve hair health? From the added ingredient in shampoo, conditioner to hair gel for that super-slick low bun, a la Hailey Bieber or simply squirting Aloe Vera Gel straight onto the roots for added nourishment, Aloe Vera for hair is a trend that’s here to stay.
Here at Tangle Teezer we are here to give you the low down on all things Aloe. This super ingredient might be your new styling best friend, so together with Tangle Teezer let’s embark on a journey to gorgeous, well-nourished, and beautifully styled hair.
Aloe Vera, what is it?
Aloe Vera is an amazingly versatile gel that can be used topically on the skin, the hair and even ingested. You will often see it as an ingredient in conditioner because of its ability to nourish the hair. And more recently, celebrities and influencers alike are paving the way for Aloe Vera gel as a staple in hair styling.
Aloe Vera is rich in essential proteins, amino acids, salicylic acid, saccharides, antioxidants, vitamins and minerals. It’s basically a superfood for your hair!
This super green plant is rich in Vitamins A, B, C and E – all essential nutrients for healthy hair growth. The antioxidants protect the hair from free radical damage, helping repair damaged hair. Its hydrating properties make it an effective conditioning agent to keep the hair healthy and aid in hair strengthening.
That sounds pretty good, doesn’t it?
How Do I Use Aloe Vera for Hair Benefits?
So you need Aloe Vera in your life but how do you actually use it? We’ve rounded up the top uses of Aloe Vera for hair below to keep you up to date with the latest trends and innovations in hair care.
Make a Hair Mask: You can take a bottle of raw Aloe Vera Gel and apply it directly on the hair. We’re not kidding! Squeeze the gel directly onto the scalp and gently massage into the head and down to the ends of the hair. Use your Tangle Teezer to comb the gel through and leave on the hair for 30 minutes.
Wash your hair following your usual routine and say hello to beautiful, healthy nourished hair!
Styling: Aloe Vera is perfect for controlling frizz, taming those pesky flyaways and adding glorious shine! Find a hair gel that has Aloe Vera in to help you get that famously perfect slick rick bun or help you master the perfect half-up, half-down style. Raw Aloe Vera Gel is ideal at helping you tease out the perfect curl.
Our top tip for a neat, glossy bun. Put some Aloe Vera Hair Gel at the top of your head, around the hairline and use your The Ultimate Styler to gently comb it back. Taming those baby hairs and adding that extra shine where the light catches it. Thank us later.
Extra Nourishment: Aloe Vera is rich in moisturising properties. You can apply the gel as a hair mask, as a hair gel or even just as an extra bit of moisturiser in the same way as you moisturise your body. Apply a small amount of the gel to your fingertips, work it through your hair before styling with The Ultimate Styler.
Removing grease build up: This might seem counterintuitive, but Aloe Vera is amazing at removing grease build-up in your hair as well as moisturising it. Aloe Vera contains Saponin, an effective cleaning agent which cleanses the hair without leaving it dry and malnourished.
Can Aloe Vera Cause Damage To My Hair?
Aloe Vera can be used on dry or oily hair. Although Aloe Vera is ideal for adding extra nourishment to dry hair it does contain mild astringents (cleansers) that can make the hair dry or brittle. It’s recommended to always use a natural oil as an added moisturiser.
If you have normal or oily hair, we recommend using Aloe Vera once or twice a week and if you have dry hair, you could use Aloe Vera up to three times per week.
